Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín is right on the Way of St James, in the locality of Villamayor de Monjardín. The first written records of the village date back to year 778 when the emperor Charlemagne went into the Deyo valley during his fights against the Moslems at the end of the 8th century. Various groups of Franks settled in the locality in the 11th century, coming along the Way of St James, which was diverted to cross through Tierra Estella following the conquest of the castle of Deyo. These groups possible named the locality Monjardín, in reference to the hill that has always boasted a great number of wild flower species. "Mon jardin" translated from French, means "my garden".
