Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín is committed to working within a framework of absolute respect for the environment. The noble materials, such as stone, old brick and wood, used for the exterior architecture, blend harmoniously into the landscape to give a building that is a reflection of the high quality wines contained within. At Castillo de Monjardín we are aware of the shortage of water and the importance of recycling the effluent originating from our work. This effluent has a high organic matter content from the wine and from the chemicals used to clean the vats. Our commitment to the environment led us to construct what is known as the "Green Filter". This is a pioneering system in Navarre and comprises an effluent storage basin with a capacity for 60,000 cubic metres. After dilution with runoff water and the separation of solids, these water are then used for irrigation purposes. In this way, we can improve the characteristics of the land and prevent erosion by planting grass in the lanes running between the vines.
